Overall Room Condition Impressions
Spotless. Everything is in top shape and feels very clean
Would You Book This Same Cabin Again?
Absolutely! It's a great cabin.
Noise In Cabin
A little noise in the cabin -- you didn't notice it if you were not paying attention
The room will not be dead quiet since you can hear music from the Promenade. The room is toward the aft of the the ship though, while the source of the music is near the center of the Promenade. We were able to go to sleep.
Cabin Odor
No noticable Odors
Temperature Control in Cabin
Why did they even bother putting a thermostat in the cabin -- it didn't work
My wife likes the cabin to be cool and we had to call to have the thermostat checked to determine why the room did not get cool when it was turned to the lowest temperature setting. A maintenance man was very prompt at showing up to check it though, and my wife was satisfied.
WiFi Signal Strength in Cabin 8609
Have you seen what the cruise line charges for WiFi? I can't afford that... (I didn't test it...)
Lighting
The lighting is exceptional - the cabin was very thoughfully lit.
Lighting was well laid out. There were two switches for the "room light", one by the room entrance and another by one side of the bed. Each side of the bed had a light and a "spot" reading light (that swiveled...). The mirror in the room also has sidelights.
Bathroom Condition
Spotless. Everything is in top shape and feels very clean
View From The Cabin
Very good view
8609 is an inside cabin with a view of the aft portion of the Promenade Deck.
Drawers, Clothes and Luggage Storage
Excellent. I was able to find a place for everything in the drawers and closet. I didn't have to leave anything in my suitcase
Technology, Comfort & Convenience
Needs serious improvement. Undersized flat panel TV and no iPod dock
Lounging Space
Very Good. Chair or a couch with a coffee or side table
Your Comments & Observations (OPTIONAL QUESTION)
The size of the flat screen TV was fine. It was on a corner shelf diagonally facing the bed. It was not wall mounted. The room had two US plugs near the room mirror, which was opposite the bed (there is also one in the ceiling of the bathroom). My wife needs her CPAP breathing machine plugged in while sleeping, so she came prepared with an extension cord. This limited us to just one plug in the evening to charge phones, battery packs, camera batteries, etc. in at night. It was not prudent to plug other things into the CPAP's extension cord since it was on the floor halfway to the bed. Therefore, in hindsight, it would be prudent to bring a surge protected (short) extension with both extra plugs and USBs. We are adding that to our packing list for future reference. My understanding is the Explorer of the Seas is going into dry dock in early 2020. I do not know what RC plans to do to the Explorer, but it would be prudent for USB outlets to be added in the staterooms, but I do not know if this is included in their cabin updates.
